Tesco Takes Off At Capitol Park
Supermarket giant Tesco’s high-specification 700,000 sq ft distribution depot at Capitol Park, Goole,
is now fully operational.
The £65 million regional distribution centre at the 310-acre Capitol Park by Junction 36 of the M62 has been officially handed over to Tesco by developers Sterling Capitol. It has created more than 600 sustainable jobs.
Tesco are paying £4 per sq ft on a 25-year-lease.
Simon Clarke, director of developers Sterling Capitol, said: "This is a major and exciting step forward for our development and a culmination of three years hard work.
"It is also excellent news for the economy of Goole and the Humber area, as Capitol Park, Goole will create more than 5,000 jobs," he added.
The 600 jobs at Tesco's distribution warehouse range from managerial to IT, logistics and maintenance. These are quality jobs, providing sustainable employment for people in East Yorkshire and the Humber region.
John Higgins, the manager of Tesco's distribution centre at Capitol Park, Goole, commented: "We would like to thank Sterling Capitol for ensuring that our superb new distribution facility was handed over on time and within budget. This was a tremendous effort, for which we are extremely grateful.
He added: "This is an excellent location, with the M62 on our doorstep, the ports of Goole and Hull just a short distance away and Yorkshire’s motorway and rail network within easy access. Capitol Park Goole is a very impressive development and we are proud to be part of it."
Capitol Park is a high-profile, mixed-use business park, with manufacturing, distribution, offices and leisure facilities, including a hotel and restaurant. The site has also attracted Guardian Industries Corp, one of the world's largest glass manufacturers, who have invested £115 million in a new manufacturing base there.
Owen Holder of property consultancy Knight Frank in Leeds commented: "Capitol Park is unrivalled within the region for its communication capabilities. It is a gem of a development and is, without doubt, one of the finest business parks in the region".
He added: "There are still 140 acres of land left for development. Enquiries have been received from across the country, ranging from small industrial units to large warehouses and retail and leisure outlets. The scale of the site and its superb multi-modal transport links make it extremely attractive, particularly for companies looking for manufacturing and large-scale distribution facilities".
The agents for Capitol Park, Goole, are the Leeds offices of Knight Frank and DTZ, together with Yorkshire industrial agents Gent Visick.
